PAINTING: ‘Execution of the Lincoln Conspirators’: Version 1: 2011/2012: Oil on Canvas 2’6” x 2’6”.

This painting was my first attempt to articulate the isolation, psychic disintegration and terror of the condemned of July 7th 1865.

Inspired by Alexander Gardner’s cinematic sequence of the original event, and Shakespeare’s “all the world’s a stage…” soliloquy, the painting also focuses the destruction of the identity of the individual by the state.
